Mabel-Canton Schools will be RELEASING at 1:00pm TODAY, there will be no after school activities (games/practice etc).

The Mabel-Canton Board of Education held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the board room.

Members present: Aberg, Adkins, Hall, Kossikowski, Kuhn, Swenson and Supt. Love

Also present: Kristine Swenson, Tessa McKenna, Lori Schulte, Barb Kerns, Jerry Jacobsen, Katie Larson and Chris Hansen

The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins.

Motion by Kuhn, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to approve revised agenda.

Motion by Swenson, second by Hall and carried unanimously, that the last day of school for seniors will be on Tuesday, May 26 following graduation practice in the morning, contingent on the fact that the senior class will not hold a skip day, and that all other students will be dismissed at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 28. The senior class will have classes until 11:00 a.m. on May 28 if a skip day occurs.

Motion by Hall, second by Kuhn and carried unanimously, to approve the April 21 minutes.

Motion by Kuhn, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to approve payment of monthly bills.

Motion by Kuhn, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to table Policy #515 and #521 until the second reading.

Motion by Kuhn, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to approve a long term sub contract for Sara Koivisto for school year 2009-2010.

Motion by Hall, second by Kossikowski and carried unanimously, to approve a contract for Elaine Meltzer as speech pathologist for the 2009-2010 school year.

Supt. Love presented budget reductions for 2009-2010 school year.

Motion by Swenson, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to approve proposed budget reductions for 2009-2010 as presented.

Motion by Kuhn, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to hold the regular school board meeting on June 23, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the board room.

Supt. Love updated the Board on the H1N1 flu status report from the State. Board members Swenson, Kuhn and Hall will hand out diplomas.
School Counselor Lana Hollar sent a report to the Board on the success of the Prom, scholarship day went well, graduation status update and the Circle of Friends cleaned the playground for their last event of the school year.

Board Member Swenson reported on the progress of the Endowment Fund that is being set up and the need for volunteers to serve on the committee.

Motion by Kuhn, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to adjourn.
