April 21, 2009 The Board of Directors of Independent School District #238 met in regular session on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in the board room. Members present: Adkins, Hall, Kossikowski, Kuhn, Soiney, Swenson and Supt. Love Absent: Aberg Also present: Matt Jackson, Barb Kerns, Jeff Nolte and Chris Hansen The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Motion by Hall, second by Kuhn and carried unanimously, to approve the agenda. Motion by Hall, second by Swenson and carried unanimously, to approve the March 17, 2009 minutes. Motion by Kuhn, second by Soiney and carried unanimously, to approve payment of monthly bills. Motion by Swenson, second by Kuhn and carried unanimously, to approve #514 Bullying Prohibition Policy. Motion by Hall, second by Soiney and carried unanimously, to approve a contract for Kelsey Anderson as assistant softball coach. Motion by Hall, second by Kuhn and carried unanimously, to accept the resignation of Anna Skare effective at the end of the 2008-2009 school year. Motion by Hall, second by Kuhn and carried unanimously, to approve continued employment for probationary teachers. First year continuing employment: Kelsey Anderson, Brenda Darling, Elaine Meltzer, Katie Tweeten, Michelle Wiedemann. Second year continuing employment: Charissa Bates. Member Swenson introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE TERMINATION AND NONRENEWAL OF THE TEACHING CONTRACT OF NAIMAH SIMONSON, A PROBATIONARY TEACHER. WHEREAS, Naimah Simonson is a probationary teacher in Independent School District No.238. BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No.238, that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 122A.40, Subdivision 5, that the teaching contract of Naimah Simonson, a probationary teacher in Independent School District No.238, is hereby terminated at the close of the current 2008 - 2009 school year. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that written notice be sent to said teacher regarding termination and non-renewal of her contract as provided by law, and that said notice shall be in substantially the following form: NOTICE OF TERMINATION AND NON-RENEWAL Ms. Naimah Simonson 209 Maple Drive Spring Grove, MN Dear Ms. Simonson: You are hereby notified that at a regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 238 held on April 21, 2009, a resolution was adopted by a majority roll call vote to terminate your contract effective at the end of the current school year and not to renew your contract for the 2008–09 school year. Said action of the board is taken pursuant to M.S. 122A.40, Subd. 5. You may officially request that the school board give its reasons for the non-renewal of your teaching contract. For your information, however, this action is taken because you did not meet the criteria for tenure in the Mabel-Canton School District. Member Kuhn introduced the following resolution and moved its adoption: RESOLUTION RELATING TO THE TERMINATION AND NONRENEWAL OF THE TEACHING CONTRACT OF LAURA SCHULTE, A PROBATIONARY TEACHER. WHEREAS, Laura Schulte is a probationary teacher in Independent School District No.238. BE IT RESOLVED, by the School Board of Independent School District No.238, that pursuant to Minnesota Statutes 122A.40, Subdivision 5, that the teaching contract of Laura Schulte, a probationary teacher in Independent School District No.238, is hereby terminated at the close of the current 2008 - 2009 school year. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that written notice be sent to said teacher regarding termination and non-renewal of her contract as provided by law, and that said notice shall be in substantially the following form: NOTICE OF TERMINATION AND NON-RENEWAL Ms. Laura Schulte 309 N Locust Mabel, MN Dear Ms. Schulte: You are hereby notified that at a regular meeting of the School Board of Independent School District No. 238 held on April 21, 2009, a resolution was adopted by a majority roll call vote to terminate your contract effective at the end of the current school year and not to renew your contract for the 2008–09 school year. Said action of the board is taken pursuant to M.S. 122A.40, Subd. 5. You may officially request that the school board give its reasons for the non-renewal of your teaching contract. For your information, however, this action is taken because of the discontinuance of your position; namely a Family and Consumer Science teacher in the Mabel-Canton School District. Motion by Hall, second by Kuhn and carried unanimously, to approve field experience agreements with St. Mary’s University and Upper Iowa University for 2009-2010. Motion by Swenson, second by Kuhn and carried unanimously, to approve 2009 budget revisions as presented. Motion by Kuhn, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to table 2010 budget reductions until May meeting. Mr. Nolte explained the Minnesota Reading Corps program and that Mabel-Canton is eligible to receive a part-time reading corps instructor for 2009-2010 at no cost to the district. Motion by Kossikowski, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to approve participation in the Minnesota Reading Corps Program for 2009-2010. Supt. Love reported on a minor change in the parent teacher conference schedule on 2009-2010 school calendar, that 2009-10 health insurance rates are expected to show a 2% decrease, interviews would be starting for a long term substitute position, and the progress on contracted food service proposals. Principal Nolte reported on the organization of a parent group, the completion of kindergarten round up, teacher observations, the third practice lock down, and progress on the 2009-10 master schedule. Board Member Hall gave the Board an update on Hiawatha Valley Education District. Motion by Kuhn, second by Hall and carried unanimously, to adjourn. Dave Swenson, Clerk |
