The Board of Directors of Independent School District No. 238 met in regular session on Tuesday, October 16, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.

Members present: Aberg, Adkins, Kuhn, Laitinen, Swenson and Supt. Love

Also present: Barb Kerns, Bonnie Wenthold, Jessica Hahn-Miller, Jeff Nolte and Chris Hansen

The meeting was called to order by Chair Kuhn.

Motion by Swenson, second by Laitinen and carried unanimously, to approve the revised agenda.

Motion by Laitinen, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to approve the September 18, 2007 minutes.

Motion by Laitinen, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to approve payment of monthly bills.

Motion by Laitinen, second by Adkins and carried unanimously, to approve a .5 contract for Sue Roppe as a special education teacher and 14 hours extended time for the gifted and talented program.

Motion by Adkins, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to approve a contract for Elaine Meltzer as speech pathologist for the 2007-2008 school year.

Motion by Swenson, second by Laitinen and carried unanimously to approve a contract for Ruth Ann Sacquitne as gifted and talented advisor.

Motion by Adkins, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to accept the resignation of Tara Johnson as media specialist with October 31st being Ms. Johnson’s last day.

Motion by Aberg, second by Laitinen and carried unanimously, to approve sending a notice to parents, informing them that the proposed Spanish trip is not a school sponsored activity.

Motion by Laitinen, second by Adkins and carried unanimously, to approve sharing “C” team football with Spring Grove for the 2007-2008 school year. Spring Grove will be responsible for paying for one football coach.

Motion by Swenson, second by Adkins and carried unanimously, to approve 2007-2008 seniority list as presented.

Information and quotes for extra security cameras was presented. No action was taken.

Supt. Love informed the Board that the teachers had filed for mediation. The Board was updated on the progress of the repair to the band room after the flooding and that a drainage system would be installed on November 20. Supt. Love has also interviewed a social worker candidate.

Principal Nolte reported on Homecoming, the new technology in the building, elementary reading curriculum is being reviewed, the school improvement team is holding regular meetings and the first round of NWEA testing is completed.

Motion by Adkins, second by Aberg and carried unanimously, to close the meeting at 7:40 p.m. to discuss teacher negotiation. Meeting reopened at 7:56 p.m.
