School Board Regular Meeting Minutes

August 24, 2023

 

The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, August 24th, 2023 at 6:00 pm in Science Room #50.

 

Members present in person: Chris Miller, Cristal Adkins, Diane Wilder, Mark Weidemann, Traci Livingood, Dustin Tollefsrud, Superintendent Gary Kuphal, Student Representative Anna Wheat

Present via visible-audible technology: NA

Also present in person: Principal Weidemann, District Secretary Heather Kleiboer, Charlene Selbee, Adam Wilder

Members absent: Jason Marquardt

 

The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins at 6:00 pm.  The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 

Motion by Diane Wilder, second byTraci Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the revised agenda.

 

Motion by Traci Livingood, second byDiane Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the July 18, 2023 minutes.

 

Consent Agenda:  Motion by Mark Weidemann, second by Diane Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the following, with many thanks for all the donations:

C.  Add Karl Urbaniack as Volunteer Football Coach

D.  Hire Jeff Rein as Boys JV Basketball Coach

  1. Student - Anna Wheat was in attendance and explained that she was signing up for PSEO Classes and getting ready to get back to school.

  1. PreK-12 Principal - 
  •  We are preparing for Staff to be back in the building next week for Inservice (Agenda was shared) and for students to be back at school! Back to School night is next Wednesday, Aug. 30th-and we are preparing to have lots of information ready for the families to return to school. The Staff Development team approved that Staff can come in and work on curriculum in their classrooms this fall and that has been working out well. Good luck to all of the Fall activities kicking off this week and next week!
 
  1. Superintendent - 
  •  Discussion on an All Staff Team Bonding event for Thursday of Inservice week. (Golf, bowling, ropes course, etc), plans are tentatively set but not confirmed. *Sponsored by Staff Development

A.   Motion by Diane Wilder, seconded by Mark Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the 2nd reading of 2023-24 Student/Parent Handbook.

B. Motion by Mark Weidemann, seconded by Diane Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the 2nd reading of Policy 419: Tobacco-Free Environment.

C. Motion by Mark Weidemann, seconded by Diane Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the 2nd reading of Policy 514: Bullying Prohibition.

D. Motion by Traci Livingood, seconded by DustinTollefsrud  and carried unanimously, to approve the 2nd reading of Policy 516.5: Overdose Medication. 

E. Motion by Diane Wilder, seconded by Traci Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the 2nd reading of Policy 534: School Meals.  

F. Motion by Dustin Tollefsrud, seconded by Chris Miller and carried unanimously, to approve the Resolution Approving a Joint Powers Agreement for the Acquisition and Betterment of an Education Facility in Winona, MN.
