| School Board Meeting Minutes August 17, 2021 The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 6:00 pm in the Media Center. Members present in person: Miller, Marquardt, Wilder, Weidemann, Tollefsrud, Superintendent Kuphal Members present via visible-audible technology: Livingood Also present in person: Principal Michelle Weidemann, District Secretary Lisa Halverson, Rich Wicks, Chad Pike, Heather Wilder, Karl Urbaniak Members absent: Adkins, Student Representative Matthew McClimon The meeting was called to order by Vice Chair Miller at 6:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Agenda Changes/Additions: Motion to approve the revised agenda by Marquardt, second by Wilder and carried unanimously. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Tollefsrud, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the July 27, 2021 minutes. Consent Agenda: Motion by Wilder, second by Marquardt and carried unanimously, to approve the consent agenda, with Weidemann abstaining to Item H. PreK-12 Principal Report: Athletic Eligibility meetings wrapping up tonight. Still looking to fill Custodian and Spanish positions. These job postings are on the school website. Working on finishing up the 2021-22 class schedule. Back-to-School night will be held September 1st 3:30-6:30. Info went out to families in the mail and is posted on the school website. At this time, 3 families have responded to the SAC survey. Will send out a reminder again tomorrow. The link is posted on the school website. Superintendent Report: South Central Technical College is selling their facility. This could be a viable option for HVED to consider. HVED plans to look into this. Gary reported his parents are still in Hospice care, and unsure what the near future holds. With that, he plans to move forward with negotiations. Next Negotiations Committee meeting is scheduled for August 25th at 6:30pm. Gary will schedule a meeting with Non-Certified Staff. Items for Action and/or Discussion: Chad Pike from Kraus-Anderson to provide an update on referendum projects: Phase 1 projects are going well. Some minor delays including bleachers, due to the manufacturing company unable to get the materials needed to assemble them. Will have to have a discussion in the future regarding unexpected repairs needed. Phase 2 (replacement windows, HVAC, ceiling replacement, finishing work) will be bid in October. Will install HVAC system in gym sooner than planned to prevent new floor from warping. Planning for 2021-22 School Year: Monday, August 30: Envoy training refresher will be held for staff. Tuesday, August 31: Back-to-School breakfast for all staff/welcome speech by Admin Wednesday, September 1: Back-to-School night for students/families 3:30-6:30. Elementary conferences and assessments, Freshman and new student orientation, school pictures will be held that night. Thursday, September 2: van and CPR training will be held for those interested Friday, September 3: Teacher work day Return to School Plan for 2021-22 Update: Motion by Wilder to approve the Safe Learning Plan, with the committee making recommendations to the School Board to change the mask mandate if needed. At this time, masks are recommended, but not required. Second by Marquardt and carried unanimously. Future Meeting and Calendar Updates: September 21, 2021; School Board Meeting, 6:00pm October 19, 2021; School Board Meeting, 6:00pm November 16, 2021; School Board Meeting, 6:00pm December 21, 2021; School Board Meeting, 6:00pm Adjournment: Motion by Marquardt, second by Wilder and carried unanimously to adjourn at 6:56 pm.
