School Board Meeting Minutes April 20, 2021 The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 6:00 pm in the Media Center. Members present in person: Wilder, Livingood, Adkins, Miller, Weidemann, Tollefsrud, Marquardt, Superintendent Kuphal, and Student Representatives Colton Heintz-Kuderer and Matthew McClimon Also present in person: Principal Michelle Weidemann, District Secretary Lisa Halverson, Rich Wicks, Adam Wilder, Laura Vatland, Greg Turner Others present via visible-audible technology: Aimee Lake The meeting was called to order by Chair Adkins at 6:00 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was said. Agenda Changes/Additions: Motion by Miller, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the agenda. Approval of Minutes: Motion by Tollefsrud, second by Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the March 16, 2021 minutes. Consent Agenda: Motion by Wilder, second by Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the consent agenda. . Student Representative Report: Update was given on senior class trip. Thank you to Mr. Wyffels and Mrs. Munroe for all they did to make the trip possible. Update on Spring sports. Varsity Softball team won their first game last weekend. Varsity Baseball team plays their first game this Thursday. Seniors are looking forward to graduation and waiting to hear final plans for the ceremony. Choir contest was held last night and went well. Knowledge Bowl team participated at State for the first time and placed 16th out of 25 teams. PreK-12 Principal Report: Prom/Post-Prom scheduled for May 1st, with a motorized grand march at the Steam Engine Grounds Band/Choir concerts for grades 5-12 will be held this Spring. Details to come. Still looking into a VIP program for elementary students. Kindergarten Round-up will be held this Friday at 2:00pm. As of now there are 13 incoming Kindergarteners attending Round-up. Preschool Registration will be held the first week of May. Track and Field Day is scheduled for May 27th. Grades K-3 will compete in the morning. Grades 4-6 will compete in the afternoon. No indoor events. No meal will be served to visitors. Two guests per family will be allowed. Social distancing and masks will be required. No finalized plans at this time on graduation. Fillmore County Public Health is offering a two-dose Pfizer vaccination to students ages 16+ onsite at Mabel-Canton School. A minimum of 5 students must participate in order for FCPH to come to the school. Vaccinated students can forgo quarantine if they become exposed to a positive COVID case. MCA testing is going well. Superintendent: Softball playoff date has been moved to June 5th. This no longer conflicts with M-C graduation. Gary followed up on the bleacher seat discussion from last month. Concave bleacher seats are the only option offered. Enrollment: Enrollment was reviewed. Items for Action and/or Discussion: 5-year Agreement with Ed Midwest LLC for technology services: Motion by Wilder, second by Weidemann and carried, with Tollefsrud abstaining, to approve the agreement. Motion was passed 6-0. Bid Package #01 for projects relating to the Bond Referendum: Motion by Marquardt, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve bid package #1. Additional LTFM dollars for repair of North side concrete steps: Motion by Wilder, second by Livingood and carried unanimously, to approve the additional requested $20,000 from LTFM revenue. Staffing for 2021-22 School Year: Still working on finalizing details. Will bring back in May for action. Bleacher Removal: With the construction time frame we have to work with, the board agreed to have the same company remove the old bleachers and replace with the new ones. Weekly Schedule for 2021-22 School Year: Discussion was held on options. Will explore and revisit. July School Board Meeting Date: Motion by Wilder, second by Livingood and carried unanimously, to move the July meeting to July 27th. 2021-22 School Calendar: Motion by Miller, second by Weidemann and carried unanimously, to approve the calendar as is, knowing changes and updates may arise. Learning Model Update: Board agreed to continue in the same learning model. No action needed.
