November 20, 2018

 

The Board of Education of Independent School District #238 met on Tuesday, November 20th, 2018 at 6:00 pm in the Media Center.

 

Members present: Loppnow, Wilder, Hershberger, Miller, Marquardt and Supt. Kuphal

 

Members absent: Adkins, Weidemann

 

Also present: Michelle Weidemann, Aimee Lake, Barb Kerns, Rich Wicks, Katie Bergey, Lonnie Morken, Lana Hollar, Greg Turner, Traci Livingood, Payton Danielson, Jason B. from Smith/Schafer

 

The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chair Marquardt at 6:02 pm

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was said.

 

Motion by Miller, second by Loppnow and carried unanimously, to approve the Agenda/Additions.

 

Motion by Miller, second by Wilder and carried unanimously, to approve the October 16, 2018.

 

Motion by Loppnow, second by Hershberger and carried unanimously, to approve the Audit Report presented by Smith/Schafer.

 

Good Things Happening: 

  • Lonnie Morken name Section I Volleyball Coach of the Year

  • Falls Award Banquet

  • Turkey Bingo had a huge turnout

  • All Varsity volleyball players earned Academic All-Conference

 

Public Participation and Recognition:

 

Katie Bergey presented information about a mini grant that she received from the Mabel Lions.

 

Consent Agenda – Motion by Miller, second by Wilder and carried unanimously to approve the following:

  • Donation from the M-C Booster Club for $420.00 to be used for two changing tables and signs to be placed in the bathrooms near the high school gym.

  • A request for the Spring Vocal Music Concert to be held a local church

  • Winter Coach Approval

  • Approved the 2018-2019 Budget

  • Approved the Activity Accounts

  • Approved the Monthly Invoices

  • Approved the Electronic Fund Transfer

 

Reports/Comments:

Student Representative: Payton Danielson talked about the Veteran’s Day Program, FFA fruit orders going in, and basketball practice starting with the 1st game for the girls next Monday.

PreK-12 Principal: Michelle talked about the following:

  • Red Ribbon Week

  • 90’s Club – Dr. Kyle Zimmer spoke

  • Financial Aid Night

  • 10th grade students went to Southeast Technical College

  • National Honor Society – Giving Tree down by the High School gym

  • Good turnout for parent-teacher conferences

  • AAA Award winner – Drew Wyffels and Maddy Michels

 

Superintendent:

  • Kuddos to Lana Hollar on keeping her staff website up to date with resources

  • MSBA trainings – Traci and Gary will be attending Phase I training in Rochester on Nov. 29th. Gary needs to know who else will be attending the training in January so reservations can be made.

  • Food Service Review by MDE – 2 findings noted

    • Food at ground level – needs to be 6” off floor

    • Open bag of food in freezer and not put back in original box

  • 2019/2020 school calendar coming soon. Will be working on 2020/2021 calendar to hopefully come out in the spring.

  1. Motion by Loppnow, second by Wilder and carried unanimously to approve the final readings of Policies: 413, 417, 418, 419, 427, 515, 516, 520, 521, 522, 524, 526, 531, 532, 533, 534, 537, 601, 603, 616, and 620

  2. Wellness Policy – 1st Reading – NO ACTION

  3. Motion by Loppnow, second by Hershberger and carried unanimously to approve the World’s Best Work Force Presentation

  4. Motion by Miller, second by Wilder and carried unanimously to approve the request for an additional half-time Kindergarten teacher or para

  5. Motion by Miller, second by Loppnow and carried unanimously to approve the request for an additional 1.0  Special Ed Para

  6. Motion by Loppnow, second by Miller and carried unanimously to approve the snow plow quote for 2 years from Karl Vang (proof of insurance will be provided when completed)

  7. Motion by Loppnow, second by Hershberger and carried unanimously to approve the School Board Election results

  8. Motion by Wilder, second by Loppnow and carried unanimously to move the Scholarship Fund account from First Southeast Bank of Canton to Bank of the West in Mabel.

 

Motion by Loppnow, second by Wilder and carried unanimously to adjourn at 7:48 pm
