Welcome Back!

Thank you for coming to open house. It was really fun to see so many of you at the open house! Some families are new to me, some I've had older siblings, but this year I have my first "second generation" family! (I still have a framed picture of my first class on my desk and her mother is in it.) ,
I am very excited to start the 2010-2011 school year! I'm excited to be team teaching math with Ms. Jenna Schmidtknecht, a recent college graduate. I'm also looking forward to having Mrs. Tina Swenson (a former student) teaching fourth grade next door.
How much homework will I have in fifth grade is a common question. The rule of thumb is 50 minutes per night. I will expect a minimum of 20 minutes of reading for Accelerated Reading (AR) five nights a week, which will start next week. I try to give as much time as I can afford to get math done in school. I am aware that what one child can do in 10 minutes may take another child 20. Therefore, feel free to write me a note if homework goes beyond 50 minutes and/or your child became frustrated. (Ten hours of sleep a night is important to one’s success in school. I’d rather have your child well-rested and help him/her with their unfinished work before school or during recess.)
Please feel free to call, e-mail, or stop by before or after school if you have any concerns or questions.
I will be sending a letter home as need arises. I would venture to say a monthly letter is the norm for fifth grade once we get up and running.
Please fill out the form attached to this letter and return it A.S.A.P. It will help me with communication, which is one of the keys to a successful school year.

Thanks so much for your time,

Mrs. Sacquitne
